“Scared of superintelligent AI? You should be, says neuroscientist and philosopher Sam Harris — and not just in some theoretical way. We’re going to build superhuman machines, says Harris, but we haven’t yet grappled with the problems associated with creating something that may treat us the way we treat ants”

Sam Harris, a well known, respected author & neuroscientist discusses the possibility of losing control over the creation of a so called Artificial Super Intelligence. He argues that humans suffer from a failure to detect dangers in the advent of certain developments.

“I’m going to talk about a failure of intuition that many of us suffer from. It’s really a failure to detect a certain kind of danger. I’m going to describe a scenario that I think is both terrifying and likely to occur, and that’s not a good combination, as it turns out. And yet rather than be scared, most of you will feel that what I’m talking about is kind of cool”

Sam harris has developed himself as a talented speaker during the last few years. In his talk; he compares the possible behaviour of an Artificial Super Intelligence with humans in a similar fashion as humans behave towards ants. Not necessarily malevolent of nature; but much like we’d instantly squash an ant if it get’s in our way without second thought.

Furthermore; he accurately describes the learning speed of such an entity much in the same way as done by the famous blog post on the Artificial Intelligence Apocalypse on Wait but Why.
